Meurte del Raton

This is a bull fight.  It has a banderillos picadors, a matador and of course, a bull.  In Hemmingway, a bull fight is a contest between two kinds of masculinity: Animal masculinity and civilized, royal masculinity.  (The dress for the matador is taken from the clothing of 18th century Andalusia, which gives you an idea what is being communicated.)  In this case, the contestants represent slightly different things.
